Too big for its bridges?

Well, we guess, if you have the space, you might as well use it, right? Unless, of course, you live in a high-rise flat in Taiwan, where space is at a premium. But that’s not the case here at Denver Airport in Colorado, USA. Colorado is a big place itself – one of the most spacious in all of America. And, being fairly central, it has cleverly positioned itself to become a top airport, not only in the USA, but worldwide.

Background: Capital and Largest City: the capital of Colorado is Denver, which is also the largest city in the state. Denver is known for its vibrant cultural scene, outdoor recreational opportunities, and as a major economic hub in the region. The state is known for its diverse geography, featuring the Rocky Mountains, high plains, plateaus, and desert lands. The state is often referred to as the “Centennial State” because it was admitted to the Union in 1876, the centennial year of the United States Declaration of Independence. John Denver (real name Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. ) named himself after the place, and even wrote a song to celebrate it. People crowd to the state for holidays and to go where the air is free.

As of 2021, there are only 5.812 million people residing in this huge (269,837 km²) state but, as you’ll see in the video below, the airport there is disproportionately large for such a small population. What gives? As it happens, Denver and its airport have been strategically placed for a very good reason. Watch the video above to learn why . . . and why it matters to you as a traveler.

John Denver changed his name: his was born Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr. Smart move, We’d say.

Relax – you’ll have the whole place to yourself. Click here for the Mountain View House near the Airport.
