The 1700 year waitlist

“Good things come to those who wait,” said a wise person. “A patient seeker will be satisfied in due time; patience is a virtue.” How many times have you heard these proverbial nuggets as you’re standing in a queue waiting for your turn to get your new passport? Hours, for sure. Days? Weeks? Months? Forever?

Well, give a hearty round of applause to the patient citizens of the ancient city Laodicea in Türkiye. Recently, their historic and remarkable theatre there, built during the Hellenistic period, has finally been re-opened after 1700 years. And for the first time in over a thousand years, the 2,200-year-old theatre hosted an audience of 15,000 people for a breath-taking concert.

An extremely popular venue throughout the Greek and Roman era, it fell out of use after a series of earthquakes rattled the area. So, it has been more than 1,700 years since a performance staged at the Laodicea Theatre. . . until just recently. Click here to read the whole story about this marvelous resurrection.
