Pearl is the queen of gems…

… and the gem of queens. And she left us too soon. Of course, the pearl that we highlight here is the one and only Janis Joplin. Her voice was singular and as a leading figure in the counterculture movement of the 1960s, Joplin embodied the spirit of rebellion and freedom. Her music and lifestyle reflected the social changes and challenges of the era, making her a symbol of the times and her songs have stood the test of time, remaining relevant and relatable.

The themes of love, heartbreak, and personal struggle in her music are universal, allowing new generations to connect with her work. Joplin’s untimely death at the age of 27 cemented her as one of the most durable and legendary figures in music history.

Those were some heady days when it came to music, art and protest. Will we see this again?

But what exactly happened on the day that she left us? We know how she died, but we may never know why. If you want to make the pilgrimage, you can visit where she took her last breath. Click here to learn more.
