Don’t worry, it’s not as horrible as it sounds, but it is, indeed a plane wreck. An history DC3 to be accurate. But, it’s not horrific. No-one perished – all the passengers on board survived the crash. But, it was a close call. And, despite it being a US Navy Aircraft, they opted not to retrieve it. That in itself seems surprising, given how tight the US can be with its machines of war.
So, you may ask, are we even discussing this? Well, of course, you can visit this historic artifact. It’s in Iceland, perched on a frozen lake. Why would you want to go? Well, how many of your friends have done it? How many of your friends can say that they’ve been on a US Military aircraft? How many can say that they’ve survived a place crash? How many can say that they’ve walked across a frozen lake in Iceland? The boasting rights just go on and on.
But what is the offer here? As it happens, it can take up to an hour to walk to the site – in the Icelandic snow and cold. But, courtesy of our affiliate friends Musement, you can visit using a comfy, heated coach. All gain, no pain.
And, of course, afterwards you can head back to a snug hotel, including stellar Icelandic food and drinks. Tempted? Click here to look and book.
