Chilean Pavilion.

They are often known as follies, but they’re out there. The term Architectural Folly refers to a distinctive type of building or structure that is deliberately erected in a landscape, park, or garden, with a primary purpose of ornamentation or visual delight, rather than serving a practical function. In some instances, they are more of an ostentatious display.

Building a costly structure that served no practical purpose was the ultimate demonstration of wealth. It signaled that the landowner had so much money, they could afford to waste it on pure aesthetics. “Eye-Catcher” ($Eyecatcher$): Follies were strategically placed in the landscape to draw the eye, enhance a view, or terminate a vista, creating a dramatic or picturesque effect.

The aspects that make them interesting, worth looking for and understanding is that someone went to great lengths to imagine and create them. Three follies were built on Folly Estate, Port Antonio, in 1905. They are now in ruins. · Lija Belvedere Tower · Temple of the Sibyl in Puławy · Iulia Hasdeu. Architects Pezo von Ellrichshausen are behind this compact pavilion, its geometric, concrete volume set within a forest in Chile’s Yungay region.
