What’s the news about Neuse?

Every city in every town in the world inevitably has something of interest to the avid history buff. We 100% support this, as keeping living history alive is not only necessary, but also a pleasure. You, yourself, may have had experiences where you introduced someone – perhaps a child or a student – to a new aspect of life, especially if you were able to pull them away from their mobile device and draw them into the real world, even if it’s “just” history. By using avid and exciting story-telling, you can easily and enjoyably bring them into the world of the past. It’s always so gratifying when you see the light bulb switch on when they “get it.”

What’s even better is when the history us nearby and tangible, as is the case in this post. A good example is located in Kinston, NC. There, you will find the CSS Neuse Civil War Interpretive Center. The Neuse was a US Civil war ironclad gunboat. For those not au fait with the CSS Neuse or even the US Civil War, this singular museum will open your eyes to the never-ending strife that the United States has endured – especially with brother fighting brother. It was a horrible time for the USA, and one that has not been forgotten.

“Glimpses into two of our nation’s most pivotal wars can be found within the city of Kinston at two different historic site locations. At the Governor Richard Caswell Memorial, you will explore the celebrated life of Richard Caswell, the first governor of the independent state of North Carolina and his role in establishing North Carolina as part of the United States. At the CSS Neuse Civil War Interpretive Center, which is now located downtown, you will see the remains of the ironclad gunboat CSS Neuse, a product of the Confederate navy’s ill-fated attempt to regain control of the lower Neuse River and retake the city of New Bern during the Civil War and state of the art exhibits that tell the story of life in Kinston during the Civil War.”
