Many countries have had to wiggle and struggle their way into the present due to the legacies of where they live, even with the best efforts and the best intentions. Moldova is one of those places. It’s a place that may not pop into the front of your mind when you think of travel destinations, but its mix of old (Soviet) and (new is a beguiling destination EU, read here.)
Thus, on May 20, 2024, Moldova became the first non-European Union (EU) signatory country to sign a security and defense pact with the EU in order to receive assistance to strengthen and manage its borders, facilitate cooperation in terms of cybersecurity and fight against disinformation. There’s always a hitch, but you get what you pay for, and the European Union is a very good place to be.
Now, after reading the paragraph above, it may sound all Dystopian and doom and gloom. But, it’s good for Moldova and it’s good for you. Moldova is shaking off the Soviet cobwebs and shaking hands with the EU. Part of that partnership is upgrading Moldova crumbly infrastructure.
One of those components is rail . . and that’s a big jump. Rail is the present and the future. So, watch the video above and be a part of it.
Moldova has lots of promise. Keep your eyes open for unique adventures there. Many of the old Soviet structures are absolutely terrific. If you don’t take the train, take a bus.
