To Fly. To Serve

Do you like a little history to go with your travel? Or, is it the other way around? We have it in this post. The long and short of it is that we’d like to shine a light on one of the world’s oldest and, at times best airlines, British Airways. We say sometimes, because the flight of the airline itself has had its turbulence.

As of March 2026, British Airways (BA) is in the middle of a massive £7 billion ($9 billion USD) transformation plan. While the airline has historically struggled with aging cabins and technical glitches, it is currently showing its strongest operational performance in over a decade. Under CEO Sean Doyle, the airline has hit several high-water marks this year: Starlink Wi-Fi: BA just became the first UK airline to launch Starlink’s high-speed satellite Wi-Fi, offering “home-like” speeds in the air. The first Starlink-equipped flight took off in March 2026.

And let’s not forget the astounding Concorde. A milestone in air travel, and one that has not been bettered.

Record Punctuality: In early 2026, BA reported its best operational performance since 2011. Approximately 82% of flights now depart within 15 minutes of their scheduled time, a significant jump from 73% just two years ago. Network Expansion: BA has announced a 9% increase in its long-haul network for winter 2026. Key new additions include: Melbourne, Australia: Resuming flights via Kuala Lumpur (starting Jan 2027). Colombo, Sri Lanka: A new three-times-weekly service from Gatwick. Increased US Frequency: Boosting flights from Baltimore, Houston, and New Orleans.

Customer Service “Hit or Miss”: Reviews in 2026 still highlight inconsistencies. While the “New Club World” (Business Class) suites are world-class, the older planes in the fleet still feature the “old” 2-4-2 seating, leading to a “lottery” experience for premium passengers. Looking toward the rest of 2026 and 2027, the airline is betting on three major pillars: one that we applaud is BA’s choice of using “home grown” products: a proliferation of Airbus planes rather than Boeing. Keep it in the family, BA!

A350-1000 Expansion: BA is aggressively moving its US routes (like Nashville, Las Vegas, and Philadelphia) to the Airbus A350-1000, which is 25% more fuel-efficient and features the much-loved Club Suite in Business Class. The “Sustainable Pilot” Program: In a novel move this month, BA proposed an incentive scheme to pay pilots a bonus (up to 1% of salary) if they hit collective targets for reducing carbon emissions through fuel-efficient flying techniques. The New First Class: Later in 2026, BA is expected to debut a completely

redesigned First Class suite for its A380 fleet, aiming to compete with the “Middle East Three” (Emirates, Qatar, Etihad) for the ultra-wealthy traveler. Finally, being British, we applaud the company and will forever be fans. To look and book at British Airways flights and more, with our affiliate partners, OMIO. click here
