The eye in the sky

Love ’em or hate ’em, Google is here, big and omnipresent. We’re sure that many of us have a ying / yang existential dilemma in using their products and services, but it’s hard to say no to those offerings when they end up being, for all intents and purposes, free. We use them regularly here on our site and, to be open and honest, pay for some of those services. And we have no problem with that, as Google’s services are always available, reliable and cost-effective.

One of the biggest apps that Google offers is, of course, Google Maps. It’s an incredible feat just to be able to capture all of the world’s immense landscape, and Google keeps adding new ways for use to get around (in our cars, on foot and even in jungles or underground and more.) But, when we rely on Google technology, most of us neve give much thought to what is behind the user-friendly interfaces and incredible speed and reach.
