Surely one of the most wonderful of things on the internet is being able to see what is going on in the big wide world. It’s probably a tendency of all humans to gaze at our navels and never really push the boat out to find something different. That’s why we love discovering things like this: the Taiwanese Elf Village in Hualien, Taiwan.
What is it? A loving recreation that evokes the Lord of the Rings. Slightly nutty (we love that) it will keep you busy for hours with a variety of activities
- Visit Mr. Sam’s cafe which is famous for the Taiwanese Elf Village in the Lord of the Rings.
- Have a relaxing time at one of Taiwan’s most beautiful lakes and be in awe of the stunning scenery.
- Head to the only two Container House in Taiwan and have a cup of coffee in Starbucks Flagship Store.
- Ride hassle-free in a comfortable coach transportation that includes hotel pick up and drop off.
During the Japanese occupation, the influx of Japanese immigrants was particularly great in the Hualien area, a period of history that is still very much in evidence today. This half day tour takes you on a journey to discover these touches of Japanese style and architecture, which have created a beautiful fusion of heritage, unique to the east coast. Begin at Jian Chinxiu Temple, a traditional Japanese Takono-style temple built for a large number of Japanese in the area in 1917. Onwards to Liyu Lake where, on a clear day, the mirror-like reflections of Liyu mountain and the cotton clouds above make for spectacular photos. Get your final culture fix at the Hualien Creative and Cultural Park. Housed in a former Japanese winery, this collection of contemporary galleries, exhibition halls, boutique shops, teahouses, and artist residences showcase cutting-edge Taiwanese art and creativity in a modern factory restoration.
