History comes in so many places, so many flavours and so many results. That’s why we like it, anyway. It’s everywhere, and it’s accessible. Sometimes it even just pops up out of nowhere, and that’s part of the joy. Your editor and his (much) better half love to get around. Nature is beautiful, for sure, but sometimes it’s what we humans do with nature that puts the cherry on the top. We don’t ravage the environment: we bask in it. We don’t avoid it, we long for it. So when art becomes one with nature, that is something certainly thrilling to behold. One example here is all about the lauded architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. If there was anyone who could seamlessly blend soft, lush buildings into the unforgettable, it was him.

Frank Lloyd Wright remains a towering icon because he didn’t just design buildings; he broke the box of Western architecture. Before Wright, Western design was largely about building heavy, self-contained boxes with small windows, deeply rooted in European historical styles. Wright looked at the expansive American landscape and decided that architecture should look outward, breathing with its surroundings rather than
imposing itself upon them. His enduring appeal lies in Organic Architecture—a philosophy that bridges the gap between the built environment and the natural world. A few perfect examples are easy to find and easy to digest: The Invention of the Open Floor Plan: If you live in a house where the kitchen flows seamlessly into the dining and living spaces, you have Frank Lloyd Wright to thank. He pioneered the “destruction of the box,” tearing down interior walls to create a continuous, flowing sense of space that defines modern living.
Even into his 80’s he continued to be a legend and an inspiration. The best part is that many of his masterpieces are still here with us, still stunning and now, with help from our affiliate partners Get Your Guide, you too can experience something truly, genuinely unique. Ready? Click here

PS: as a humorous footnote: my parents were once invited to dinner at a Wright house. I was thrilled beyond belief. When I asked my father the next day about it, I drilled him in detail about the place. Excitedly I asked how it was. “Cramped” was the response. 🙂
