San Fran-frisky

We’re sure that most of Matouring’s audience has spent some time in San Francisco. It’s one of those places where nearly everyone wants to visit, stay, and linger longer. But what makes it special? San Francisco is a city that naturally embraces the unconventional. Its profound sense of warmth and inclusivity isn’t an accident; it is baked right into its geography and history.

As a literal peninsula surrounded by water on three sides, it is physically compact—just 7 miles by 7 miles. This forced density creates an incredibly vibrant, community-first “city of neighborhoods,” where distinct cultures bleed seamlessly into one another. Combined with a legacy of welcoming outsiders—from the creative chaos of the 1849 Gold Rush to the poetic rebellion of the 1950s Beat Generation, the 1960s Summer of Love, and pioneering LGBTQ+ civil rights movements—San Francisco operates on a baseline of “come as you are.”

We’ve been a few times and are pleased that the peace love and understanding ethos is still extant. We need more of it nowadays. One thing is for sure: it does not represent the hoard of war-mongers, “not in my back yard” that seem to be grabbing all of the news these days (June, 2026.) San Francisco is all about inclusion, positivity & love. Let’s keep it that way.
