We were please to see the video below, the other day. It’s a heartening story about humans rolling up their sleeves (as it were) and rolling out their bicycles to get around and do their bit to save our burning planet. It may seem like a small gesture, but, in reality it simply makes sense. Anyone can do it. Bicycles are not too expensive, and chances are that all of us have ridden bicycles in the past and our brains are hard-wired in how to do it, anyway. But take a look at what Seville, Spain is making things happen. Bravo Sevilla!
Several factors contributed to this trend, including a growing interest in sustainable transportation, increased awareness of environmental issues, and efforts by cities to promote cycling infrastructure. Many other European cities implemented bike-sharing programs, built dedicated cycling lanes, and introduced policies to encourage cycling. And the Netherlands has so many bicycles, CO2 emissions would drop by 690 million tonnes. Read more here.
And, not surprisingly, the COVID-19 pandemic played a role in boosting bicycle usage as people sought alternative and socially distanced modes of transportation. Governments and local authorities also recognized the health benefits associated with cycling. And, as Sir David Attenborough once said, ““If I can bicycle, I bicycle.”

PS: in the UK, “On your bike, mate” means that you tell someone to go away or stop behaving in a foolish way. When Graham said “I want to drive there,” Chris said something like ” You’re out mate, on your bike!” This is a figurative and literal poke from Chris to Graham.
