In love? Sorento? Or both? Cast your fate to the wind and have it all! Ahh, Italy. Where do we even start? How about Sorento? While many travelers stick to the main squares of Sorrento and the famous cliffs of Positano, the Sorrento Peninsula and the nearby Amalfi Coast are filled with eerie ruins, secluded coves, and hamlets that feel frozen in time.
This summary just scratches the surface, as they often do, but as you wander and linger longer in this somewhat overshadowed city, it will all become evident: you simply must go. For example, Right in the center of Sorrento, just behind Piazza Tasso, is a sight that looks like it belongs in a post-apocalyptic film. Or The Experience: Peer over the stone railing on Via Fuorimura to see 13th-century stone flour mills sitting at the bottom of a deep volcanic crevasse. This is just a snippet of this must see adventure.

Finally, Why it’s unique: Abandoned in the 1940s, the mills have been completely reclaimed by aggressive, lush greenery due to the high humidity at the bottom of the gorge. It is one of the most photographed “modern ruins” in Italy. Wow your friends. Pat yourself on the back. This is what it’s all about. Make it so!
