Modern farming

It’s fabulous thing to have lots of money. You can more or less do what you want, even if “it makes no sense.” Look at Elon Musk. Or Jeff Bezos. Sheesh.

But, back to reality, there are hundreds of wealthy individuals out there who happily and thoughtfully share their riches: Azim Premji, Michael Bloomberg, Li Ka-shing, Andrew Carnegie and more. And we’re thankful for them – the world needs more of this. How many billions does one person need, anyway?

One very rich person, though, as taken a different approach to sharing his wealth. New Zealand’s Alan Gibbs has, in his name, created an art gallery that is available to all, but there are some conditions. For background,  Gibbs is merchant banker who made his fortune after the economic reforms of the 1980s, and went on to fund the ACT Party. And, of course, being very wealthy, he has the means to express himself as he wishes. In this case, he does that by making his art collection available to the public, but there are a few conditions. Firstly, the collection is outdoors, and it’s in New Zealand. Secondly, it’s only open periodically, and you need to reserve a spot ahead of time and it’s open to artists, educational institutions, charities and the public, by prior appointment only. Worth it? Decide for yourself. Contact Gibbs Farm here. But, book ahead!
