Metro Tehran

Welcome to another post about public transport and why you should use it. We’re a little more than excited to feature the video below, as it shows a typical day with everyday people going about their business, using Tehran’s metro. Some countries may not want you to see it, or to portray it in another light, but here it is – and we’re happy to be able to share it.

It’s got everything that a modern metro should have: updated carriages, jam-packed with people of all walks of life doing the right thing: taking the metro, being efficient, saving the planet. More than three million passengers a day use the system. Compared with other big cities (for example, Tokyo which, in 2019 had 3.9 billion number of trips and is the most vibrant metro network) with about 3.9 billion number of journeys followed by Moscow with about 2.5 billion ridership) Tehran is somewhat behind, but who cares? They’re doing it, unlike many major cities in the West who should know better.

And, speaking of that, if you’re curious about visiting Iran, you certainly can and you certainly should, especially if you’re an open-minded egalitarian who is aware of how a country sees itself, and how it wishes people of all places to see it.

Iran boasts a history that spans thousands of years, with ancient civilizations contributing to its cultural richness. Visitors can explore historical sites such as Persepolis, Isfahan’s Naqsh-e Jahan Square, and the ancient city of Yazd. Despite misconceptions, Iran is generally considered a safe destination for tourists. The crime rate is low, and visitors often praise the feeling of security they experience during their travels.
