If they’ve been in the right places, most world travelers will have been in a Tuk Tuk. They’re a great way to get around, much better than using a monster truck or some other form of inefficient transport. And there are a lot of them: Wikipedia says As of 2022 India has about 2.4 million battery-powered, three-wheeled rickshaws on its roads. Some 11,000 new ones hit the streets each month, creating a US$3.1 billion market. And that’s just India! Sri Lanka, China, Thailand, Cambodia, Pakistan, Nepal and Sudan are just a few. We even took a Tuk Tuk in Peru: they’re that pervasive . . . and fun.
With that sheer number of users and countries, you can be sure that demand for Tuk Tuks is always flat out. So, spend a few interesting minutes to watch how these mini-wonders are made. And then thank the makers for providing you with cheap, efficient and fun transport worldwide.
