Little bit of Seoul.

By this time, we would expect that most of our readers here would know about Seoul. How can you not, especially with some of the rather gob-smacking shows that they produce on Netflix? Let’s have fun and dig a little deeper into this genuinely wonderful country. While major sites like Gyeongbokgung Palace Myeongdong are staple stops on a Seoul itinerary, stepping off the beaten path reveals a fascinating side of the city where vintage architecture, industrial grit, and hidden nature intersect. Here are some lesser-known spots and neighborhoods to explore for a more unique, local perspective: Eunpyeong Hanok Village offers a vastly different, quieter experience compared to the heavily touristed Bukchon Hanok Village. Nestled right at the base of Bukhansan Mountain, this neighborhood features newer, spacious, two-story traditional houses rather than crowded historical lanes.

Atmosphere: Exceptionally peaceful with majestic mountain backdrops, offering a serene environment to stroll without dealing with large tour buses. Highlight Viewpoint: Visitors often frequent multi-floor cafes like 1in1jan in the area to secure panoramic upper-floor window seats looking directly out over the sweeping tiled roofs. A Local Feel: Because it is a lived-in, quieter residential development, it retains a calm, unhurried

pace. Starbucks Gyeongdong 1960 BranchClick to open side panel for more information reimagines a forgotten cultural space inside the bustling Gyeongdong traditional market. This massive coffeehouse is built entirely within the skeleton of an abandoned 1960s theater that closed its doors in the 1990s. The Design: Retains original wooden tiers, dramatic vaulted ceilings, and retro theater-style terraced seating facing what used to be the main screen. Community Focus: The venue periodically hosts live acoustic musical sets and local cultural performances on its main stage. Retro Details: When your order is ready, your name or number is projected directly onto the side brick wall, maintaining the classic cinema aesthetic.

Personally, we were mesmerized (for years, actually) to visit the DMZ between the North and South. We made it there and witnessed everyday people doing everyday thing. Peace to you all. ❤️
