There are so many fabulous places in the world in which to travel. Many of us are lucky enough to be able to do so. And, many of us have already been able to make the rounds and see all of the “star” locations, such as Paris, New York, Beijing etc.
It will come as no surprise that there are so many other locations that can be just as awe-inspiring. And, even better, when we discover these hidden gems, we also have the opportunity to change the lives of those who inhabit them.
In this case, let’s discover Uttarakhand, India where, along the Tibetan border, the Himalayas ascend to 25,000 feet and paths wander by hazy waterfalls, historic temples and through rhododendron woodlands.
Here, the locals are now being supported by the Bachan Charitable Trust, have a simple, but effective idea: train widows and survivors of domestic violence to offer homestays, cook for visitors and be guides.
The people of India are uniformly wonderful, welcoming, kind, open-minded and can shape your world view if their culture is new to you. Why not have fun and do good at the same time?
