If only . . . .

Being longtime avgeeks and still constantly looking for that big aviation buzz (of which there are still many,) we happened upon this YouTube video that thrilled us no end. We’ve always longed for the days when Concorde was still flying and wished that it was still coursing its way through the skies. Alas, of course, that won’t happen again, for many reasons. But, when we lived just outside of London, that mighty bird would roar over our house every day, and yours truly would run out to witness it. I still remember standing in our back garden, both of my young sons in my arms, staring into the sky as that incredible machine flew its last flight. spectacular, as its engines ripped the sky.

So imagine my schoolboy-like glee as I discovered, yesterday, long-buried video of a flight of the Concorde from in the inside; just a typical day as the captains of industry winged their way to success and luxury in this one-of-a-kind bird. And you can vicariously join them on this flight thanks to the Internet and YouTube.

Here are some of the stats of this amazing bird: It ripped through the skies at 44000 feet, at a speed of Mach 2 – or 1,350 mph – at 60,000 feet, Concorde flew five miles above and 800 mph faster than the subsonic 747s “plodding” across the Atlantic. Right now, the fastest airliner is the Boeing 747-8i For reference, Mach 1 is almost 1382 miles per hour. Planes today fly at Commercial 31000-41000 feet. If only this to-die-for beast was still in the air.
