How now, Bauhaus?

We can’t be 100% certain, but we’re pretty confident that if you visit the Matouring site, you’re open-minded and open to almost anything. We suspect that the arts feature in your life. You love music, film, books, travel (of course) and the endless supply of the wonders in the world. If you’re like us, you also will have a great appreciation of architecture, design and buildings. Building on that thought (ha ha,) we’re willing to bet that you look to the Modernist designs (from the 1920’s onwards) from Germany, France and the USA, amongst others.

And, finally, we’re also pretty sure that your love of travel will compel you to find ways to stop and smell the roses, which are usually a feature of alluring hotels. But here, we go one step further and, not only allow you to admire fantastic places to stay, but to actually book them and stay in them. And, even better, these are Bauhaus Hotels and Mid-Century Modern buildings. (As a refresher, The Bauhaus was the 20th century’s most influential design and architecture school, with buildings built by its teachers and those influenced by the movement spread across the globe.)

As we said, you can stay in some of the buildings designed by Bauhaus figures, such as Walter Gropius and Herbert Bayer (including the Dessau school building itself) Frank Lloyd Wright and more. Read more here courtesy of dezeen. And see below: some suggestions of stunning historic buildings where you can stay.

Incroyable – the Hotel le Corbusier (a contemporary of Gropius) in Marseille. You can stay there. Click here to book.
