Hello Luft°ita

Hello Luft°ita? Is that title supposed to be English?Right now, you’re probably scratching your head, wondering what the heck we’re up to this time. Was our keyboard broken, or defaulted to another language that’s just been discovered by persistent and forthright archaeologists. Was it lazy typing? Bad proofreading? No, none of that.

But it is interesting if you like Europe and you like to fly. One of our top three favorite airlines, Lufthansa Group have been given the go-ahead to increase its ownership in Italy’s state-owned ITA Airways (AZ, Rome Fiumicino) to 90% from early 2025. But, smartly, it wants to keep the Italian government’s support for the first two years following the merger scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024.

So, why is this interesting? Well, Lufthansa, will be able to lend its superlative air management processes while assisting another European brethren airline, (ITA) to get back on its feet to, once again, proudly be the contender that it was, when it comes to European aviation. So, Luft°ita, of sorts! It’s a win-win situation.

Lufthansa Group will be able to increase its ownership in Italy’s state-owned ITA Airways (AZ, Rome Fiumicino) to 90% from early 2025, but it wants to keep the Italian government’s support for the first two years following the merger scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024.

ITA is owned by the Government of Italy via the Ministry of Economy and Finance and was founded in 2020 as bankrupt Alitalia’s successor. The airline flies to over 70 scheduled domestic, European, and intercontinental destinations.

Lufthansa still fly Boeing 747s and Airbus A380s. They have our attention!

There were a few tense moments a few years back whether ITA would be able to pick up the reins at last. So, this makes European air choices even better. This will also broaden the reach for Lufthansa’s economy airline, Eurowings, to further serve a network of domestic and European destinations and to maintain bases at several airports throughout Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic. And they use the latest Airbus jets, which even sweetens the deal. That’s a big plus if you ask us. Click here to book Lufthansa flights.
