We try not to wade into the tech battles, where self-described experts taunt each other to the death about this app and that upgrade. We applaud them but don’t want to get stuck in the mire. We strip things down as simple as is possible to get it done without having an aneurism. That said, one bit of free tech that we genuinely love is Google’s Keep app. I am not the most organised person on the planet, so Keep acts as my minder and mother, as it were. Google Keep is a free, web-based note-taking service developed by Google. Think of it as a digital version of color-coded sticky notes—designed to be fast, lightweight, and highly visual. With the right Android device, you can also transcribe conversations, memos and more. Ka-ching!
Ecosystem Integration: It is built directly into the Google Workspace sidebar. While you are writing a document in Google Docs, you can drag a Keep note directly into your paper. Collaboration: You can share a note with someone else (like a shared “Home Projects” list), and you will see their edits and checkmarks in real-time. Did I mention that it’s free? Yes I did, several times. Try it. You may never return to what you have.

In 2026, it remains a favorite for users who want to capture ideas instantly without the complexity of heavy document editors. Intelligent Organization: Instead of traditional folders, Keep uses labels and colors. You can color-code your “Travel” notes blue and your “Work” notes red for instant visual recognition. Location-Based Reminders: This is one of its “magic” features. You can set a reminder to pop up not just at a certain time, but when you reach a specific location (e.g., your grocery list appears on your phone the moment you walk into the supermarket). OCR (Optical Character Recognition): If you take a photo of a menu or a document, Keep can “grab” the text from the image and turn it into searchable, editable digital text. So, we imagine you get the idea. To flesh in out a bit more, if you’re curious. Android Police have authored this rather snappy user’s guide. Click here Curious? Want to make your life a little easier? This will do it, for sure.
