One thing that is certain is that the UK (United Kingdom) is never short on history. The United Kingdom was formed in 1707 with the Acts of Union, joining the kingdoms of England and Scotland to create the Kingdom of Great Britain. It is 318 years old as of 2025. However, the modern name “United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland” came into effect in 1922 after Ireland was partitioned. a sovereign country in northwestern Europe that is a political union of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

It is often confused with Great Britain, which is the name for the island that includes England, Scotland, and Wales, but not Northern Ireland. Suffice to say that it’s indeed old and has the artifacts to prove it. There are so many cities, towns and boroughs that it will keep keen history buffs busy for weeks if not months. But, we’re confident that even the most hearty amateur has not heard of our subject today, Cromer. Cromer is a coastal town and civil parish on the north coast of the North Norfolk district of the county of Norfolk, England. It is 23 miles north of Norwich, 9 miles northwest of North Walsham and 4 miles east of Sheringham on the North Sea coastline.

Being on the seaside, Cromer just calls out for travelers to stop what they’re doing and join the fun & history.
And speaking of that. On the seaside is a hotel that has been active and thriving for decades, the Hotel De Paris. You might scratch your head with the name of the hotel, but one thing that is always the same, ever changing, but never changing, is Europe and its members, one of which is the UK. Finding yourself in it’s accommodations is de rigueur. So, if you’re feeling adventuresome, why not step away from the “brand” hotels and choose a Grande dame.
