Cheaper than a Butterbrot

A butterbrot is a lecker and versatile sandwich in Germany. The Germans have devised dozens of ways of preparing this staple. Rye bread, perhaps served with cheese, sweet toppings or a slice of sausage. Sometimes, for breakfast it tends to be sweet and can be marmalade, jam, honey, chocolate spread, hazelnut spread, or the less common peanut butter. In any instance, it is a quick, simple, nutritious and – perhaps most of all – inexpensive – pleasure.

Speaking of inexpensive pleasures, how about this? Deutsche Bahn rail is offering tickets for just 9 Euro. For that pittance, you can travel throughout Germany on local/regional trains for a whole month in June, July or August, 2022. That’s probably cheaper than an elaborate butterbrot.
