Calling all “Ferrovipathes

Once again, Matouring leaps forward into the past to bring you stuff that we think you history buffs love. This is all about French trains. Of course we love the TGV and the local trains, but how much attention do the latter receive? If you live nearby or are a short shot away from a local French station, this may be a bit redundant and repetitious. So, a little history for you if you need to catch up. France’s rail network is highly interconnected,

dominated by the national operator, SNCF. The system is divided into high-speed, regional, commuter, and international networks, each tailored for specific travel needs: TGV INOUI: The flagship high-speed bullet trains reaching speeds up to \(320\) km/h. They connect major cities across France (often on double-decker Duplex trains) and require advance seat reservations. Again, these rail adventures need a little love (as in exposure) for the neighbourhood lines. We’re not alone in this amour with trains of all types. If your time is slim or if you have the whole day to yourself, we have just the ticket for you. Join us at the SNCF Museum.

France

Formerly known as the French Railways Museum, the Cité du Train, the heritage museum of SNCF, continues to be a recognised Musée de France. It covers two centuries of railways in France, from the first steam locomotives to modern TGV trains. Through its rich collection of rolling stock, models, railway-related objects, posters and art works, the Cité du Train retraces a significant part of the history of the country and our collective memory. Each piece on display tells visitors something about this great adventure, where people tirelessly developed new technologies and brought regions and their inhabitants closer to each other.
