As thick as this post may seem, and as (probably) confusing as it’s title is, your editor has had an on and off relationship with Iceland for quite a while. We’ve been several times, and your editor’s intrepid son, had a good time, but I walked away a bit disappointed. C’est la vie, we guess. That was then, but this is now. We’re a little bit wiser now.
As cold as the country can be – the land of ice and snow – when we’ve been, sometimes the reception as a tourist seemed to be part of the package. We guess you can’t blame the country, as there are just as many fools as sensible, intelligent travelers as well. So, as a redux, we pull out our opens minds and our wallets to see what it’s like now. Take or leave my comments and find out for yourself. And, as you might expect, there’s no getting around, getting around in Iceland, so an automobile is the way to go. (PS, another benefit with campers is the rather big savings of renting a hotel). Win win!)
