Like every country, history is filled with ups and downs, successes and failures. Cambodia is no different.
Cambodia’s history spans from Stone Age settlements to the powerful Khmer Empire, which built magnificent temples like Angkor Wat and influenced Southeast Asia. After gaining independence, Cambodia was destabilized by the US Vietnam War, culminating in the brutal Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 to 1979. A period of Vietnamese occupation followed, but the country began a process of recovery after the UN-led mission and new constitution in 1993. For us, it’s always a joy to see joy, even when there might not be much to be joyful about. We happened on the video, above, that gives you an idea what Cambodia once was. Today, Cambodia is a country undergoing rapid development, but faces challenges like poverty, corruption, and political control. Its economy is growing due to sectors like garments, tourism, and agriculture, though it remains one of the world’s poorer nations.
