Nothing like a somewhat contentious post to start your day, and this one may zigzag from one place to another, but it ends up with a logical and quite interesting proposal. So, let’s start off time-traveling back to the 1950’s, where there was “freedom” and then there was everyone else in the world. Many of the “everyone else” lived in a Europe that looks nothing like today. A huge swath of people lived in the “communist” blocks in the world (again we’re focusing on wider Europe) and, as was the case back then, it was – in many ways – a miserable place to be. Rations, unpredictable healthcare (at least they had it) and this lingering feeling that you were being watched, which was probably the case, especially if you had an opinion. So you had to watch your step take what you were given by the government and were expected to like it. And what you got sometimes was not a shadow of what you wanted.
Fast forward to November 9, 1989. The people finally “had it” and took politics into their own hands . . and sledgehammers. Down fell the Berlin wall and in its place, new options for the new Europeans. And one of the items on the list was housing for all. They were utilitarian, but did the job. And, most of all, they were sturdy if not aesthetically pleasing. And, so they remained. Europe moved on and they still remained.
Fast forward to now: everything is insanely and unnecessarily expensive. What to do? Smart people are looking forward to the past. Maybe some of the “commie” ideas weren’t so bad. Watch the video, below, courtesy of the always funny and frank Adam Something. He’s not wrong, you know.
Looking for a place to live in Europe? There are some really good options: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Commie Blocks might be the answer, says Adam Something.
