They say that history repeats itself, and those who don’t know it are destined first as a tragedy, second as a farce. Or, in this case, it could be serendipity or, alternately, a patent lawsuit.
In this fun and peculiar history instalment, our top favourite YouTuber, Tom Scott uncovers what might just be coincidence where technology and history collide, but ages apart. As a preface, most of us know Bluetooth, that ubiquitous technology that allows all of our treasured devices to talk to one another: phones to tablets; tablets to televisions, etc. You know what we’re talking about. You may even use Bluetooth and not even know it. PS: don’t worry; there will be no technical mumbo-jumbo required to understand this post.
The Jelling Stones, thousand-year-old Viking runestones, sit in the town of Jelling in Denmark. They tell the tale of Harald Bluetooth: one of the first kings of Denmark. Watch Tom’s video, above, to discover why his name is on your phone. Thanks, Tom!
