Tuk Tuk to the future

Who doesn’t love a Tuk Tuk? We certainly do, and we’ve been in them from Delhi to Peru. Cramped, noisy, smelly, chaotic and 150% fun. They’re a part of the landscape in so many places. They’ve been around since the 1930’s. Most have three wheels and do not tilt.  Depending on the country, they can be known as auto, auto rickshaw, baby taxi, mototaxi, pigeon, jonnybee, bajaj, chand gari, lapa, tuk-tuk, tum-tum, Keke-napep, Maruwa, 3wheel, pragya, bao-bao, easy bike, cng and tukxi. We just call them fun!

If you’ve been in one, you’ll also know that they’re rather smelly – belching fumes out of the back and sometimes into your nostrils in the cabin. Yes, that’s part of the unforgettable experience: you just need to laugh and carry on with the party.

But, as you might expect, this kind of cough cough existence can’t last for too much longer in our environmentally cautious times. And, as you might expect, someone has risen to the occasion to bring the Tuk Tuk into the present. Watch the video below, courtesy of the ever-interesting DW.com
