Regular readers of this site will know that we are history freaks: the older, the better – and the more amazing. In every corner of the world, historical delights can be found around every corner. But, some locations in the world specialise in history: their efforts to delight and inform visitors range from the basic to the digitally spectacular. We love them all.
But, some places just leave things as they are, and continue on with their day. This article is about one of the most pristine places you can find – Calatañazor, in Spain.
Calatañazor is a municipality located in the province of Soria, Castile and León, Spain. According to the 2010 census, the municipality has a population of 70 inhabitants. The municipality is named after the tiny fortified city on top of a hill.
Also situated in the municipality are the hamlets Aldehuela and Abioncillo. Abioncillo used to be abandoned like many forsaken hamlets in Spain, but in the 1980s was turned around by a few dedicated teachers into an educational center.
You will likely not see such authenticity as you do here. It’s a marvel, in our opinion.
