…. on the sea, perched on rocks, in a very secluded part of very secluded Wales, where you can only get in by boat. I’ll call it Portmeirion. And I will encourage visitors, but not too many. And, eventually, my little plot of heaven will be the location of one of the most vaunted shows on television.
Portmeirion is a popular tourist village located in Gwynedd, North Wales. It was designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1973 in the style of an Italian village. Portmeirion is known for its colorful buildings, stunning architecture, and beautiful surroundings. The village is set on a picturesque peninsula overlooking the estuary of the River Dwyryd and features lush gardens, walking trails, and panoramic views.
And despite these obstacles and self-made demands, it’s a place where you really should visit. Portmeirion gained additional fame as the filming location for the cult TV series “The Prisoner” in the 1960s. The series’ unique setting and architecture have contributed to Portmeirion’s enduring popularity as a tourist destination. Today, Portmeirion offers visitors a range of attractions, including cafes, shops, hotels, and self-catering accommodations. It also hosts events and festivals throughout the year, attracting visitors from around the world.
