Your Japan Home.

Drop everything. If Japan is on your list of places to stay, you’ll undoubtedly know how expensive Tokyo can be. Based on current market trends, rental prices for a typical small apartment in Tokyo can vary dramatically depending on the location, age of the building, and amenities. A “small” apartment in Tokyo is generally defined as a studio (1K) or a one-bedroom apartment (1LDK). These are the most common options for single people or couples. Some are so small you might need to squeeze by each other every morning.

Average Range: The typical monthly rent for a small apartment in a well-connected, but not hyper-central, area of Tokyo is approximately ¥65,000 to ¥100,000 JPY (approximately $450 to $700 USD).

We were having a look the other day for a place to stay in Tokyo and stumbled upon this YouTube post. We read the story, watched the video at least twice and still couldn’t believe our eyes. The more we watched, it dawned on us that some of these are real prices to purchase a bolt hole right in the middle of Fukuoka. Real estate agent Yamada Anthony actually has these available. Ideally, we’re sure that he’d like to make the sale, but we sense that rentals are a second best. 450 to $700! You’d be lucky to find one that price out in the sticks. This has close proximity to nearly everything, including the underground stations. You’re welcome!
