Bien sur! Some have it all, but some are having none of it. Royalty, real or aspired, has its place, but not with all of us, even if we have our pinky raised as we sip one’s oolong tea. Still, enjoy yourself with yourself if that is your thing. So! what started out as a search for a new and “undiscovered” location on the planet for you, the word Marquesa appeared out of thin air. Us being us, we had to find out what the hubbub was all about.
Naturally we had to write about it. Ready? According to Wikipedia, The Marquesas Islands are a group of volcanic islands in French Polynesia, an overseas collectivity of France in the southern Pacific Ocean. Their highest point is the peak of Mount Oave on Ua Pou island, at 1,230 m above sea level. Yet another place for you to discover, enjoy and then with to taunt your friends.

The Marquesas Islands are interesting for their extreme remoteness, dramatic volcanic landscapes (no coral reefs, just steep cliffs plunging into deep ocean), incredibly rich marine life (a “marine wilderness”), and a unique, strong indigenous culture known for intricate tattooing, monumental stone tiki statues, and ancient paepae (stone platforms). They offer a rugged, less-touristed glimpse into Polynesian heritage, attracting adventurers seeking raw nature and deep cultural immersion, plus they’re the final resting place for artists like Paul Gauguin.

Residents of the Marquesas have chafed at Tahiti’s overwhelming dominance, complaining of neglect by politicians based in Tahiti, and leaders have suggested developing a direct relationship with the metropole, the government in Paris, instead of depending on Papeete.[27] As sentiment was rising in Tahiti in the 21st century for independence from France, several prominent Marquesan political leaders in 2007 floated the idea of the Marquesas Islands separating from French Polynesia but remaining within the French Republic.[27] This has generated controversy in Tahiti, where pro-independence Tahitian leaders have accused the French central government of encouraging the separation of the Marquesas Islands from French Polynesia.
