Xtreme Transit.

We love transit. Trains, planes, buses and even taxis. Our objective is to, daily, park the car and leave it there. But it got us thinking: How much pollution does the average car create every day and how much does that contribute to over all pollution. It’s complex to give a precise daily pollution figure for the “average” car, as it depends heavily on several factors. Of course, how often and how thrifty the driver is makes a huge contribution, but, the US EPA estimates that a typical passenger vehicle emits about 4.6 metric tons of CO2 per year.

Thus, Assuming an average of 11,500 miles driven per year, this equates to roughly 400 grams of CO2 per mile. If the average daily mileage is around 37 miles, then the average car emits approximately 14.8 kilograms (or 32.6 pounds) of CO2 per day. You can do the maths, if you wish, but it’s probably more than it should be and more that the earth wants.

So, what are the choices? You can always walk, bike or, in what is the subject of this post, take Public transit. Watch below as You Tuber Adam takes an heroic trip to see what happens if he skips trains, planes and automobiles. It may get you rethinking your way of life.

While Adam’s findings are somewhat shocking, they’re not surprising. Skipping cars and planes, buses and trains are the most sensible and eco-friendly ways of getting around. They’re also inexpensive and everywhere. Give it some thought. Make your grandkids proud. Make yourself feel good. Watch above.
