Wow, that’s deep, man

We humans, despite our many flaws, do manage to do a thing or two that more or less redeems us. When we read the news nowadays (and by that nowadays means decades) it feels like there are not many good things to cheer about. Wars, strife, inequity, selfishness (and all of the sub-products that are a part of the kind of mindset that thinks only for itself) seem – to us anyway – to have happily bubbled to the top of our news feeds with no remorse or self-reflection. Sad.

But, we wouldn’t be discussing this for no reason. Of course there are so many things that should make us thinking humans proud of being a part of this species. And – even though they may be buried in the news, they’re there and they’re worthy of our attention.

This post – despite its somewhat gloomy introduction – is actually about how two countries idenfified a problem and, rather than fighting about it, came together to not only solve the problem, but also how to unify two peoples and make their lives so much better.
