It’s Chile. Why are you Rushin’?

Slow down, you’re moving too fast. Try to make the morning last. Your best approach? Chilean, dude.

This post is about a remarkable, yet too often forgotten place on the planet Chile. Chile, often called the “land of extremes,” it is an incredibly long and narrow country stretching over 4,300 km (2,600 miles) along South America’s western edge. This unique geography gives it an unparalleled diversity of landscapes, climates, and experiences, making it a truly exceptional travel destination.

We’ve both not been yet (even though 50% of us lived there for many decades) but it’s in the calendar for next year. Chile’s incredible diversity means there are fantastic options for older travelers, prioritizing comfort, accessibility, and a more relaxed pace while still offering amazing experiences. While some parts of Patagonia or high-altitude Atacama might require more specific considerations, many areas are very welcoming. After having many years to make its move, Chile has excellent infrastructure, world-class hotels, diverse culinary scene, and easy access to cultural attractions.

It’s the main entry point to Chile, making it a natural starting point. For example, in Chile’s capitol, Santiago Explore the City: Visit historical sites like Plaza de Armas, La Moneda Palace, and the Metropolitan Cathedral. Enjoy museums such as the Chilean Museum of Pre-Columbian Art or the National Museum of Fine Arts. You really should put some thought into it.

If you’re nervous about your horrible Spanish, in Chile, an estimated 1.97 million people speak English. This number represents a significant portion of the population, particularly in major cities and among those with higher levels of education. While Spanish is the official language, English is increasingly spoken in various sectors, including tourism, education, and business. And there’s always Google Translate. Hey ho, get packing. Ah, youth. “Youth is happy because it has the capacity to see beauty. Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old.” Get packing!
