This post was, at first, to be updates about what’s going on in the high speed rail world, (specifically the excellent Brightline service in the US) and also highlighting services throughout Europe (who feature speeds up to 200 mph (321 km/h) and in Asia where trains can hit 300–350 km/h (190–220 mph without hitting a car or a person.
But, sorry, what the post has become is a bit of a tirade as to why the (mostly) USA drivers have this tendency to think that they can beat the train. Even if it’s a slow train taking tons of coal to a depot somewhere, drivers still think they’re smarter, with deadly results.
You really have to wonder about people sometimes, and the decisions they make. We can’t believe that we’re even writing this. But see if you can guess which country is probably “the winner” here as they are the ones who almost routinely and inevitably make the “decisions” and end up as the ones who ultimately pay the price. So, enough of us belly-aching. Just watch and wonder. Click here for more rail content.
