Well, here we go again. You know us. We we love travel. We love history. And we love science. This post has all three all wrapped up in a rather exciting bundle…a roaring bundle, as it were. This is all about Niagara Falls.
If you’ve been to that slightly tacky, but loveable destination, you’ll know that the big draw is the Falls, itself. (And by that, we mean the Canadian side, as the US side leaves a lot to be desired.) Yes, you’ll stroll around the walkways right next to the falls. You’ll keep walking and will approach the parts of the walls where you can almost place your hand into the raging torrent of water. (Top tip – don’t do that) and you’ll marvel at the sheer power and roar of the mighty Niagara river.
If you have enough time, you’ll take the Maid of the Mist tour boat that just manages not to sink: the clever drivers know what they’re doing. You’ll step off of the boat, look back at your adventure, and you’ll want more.
Now, here’s the main topic of this post. Did you know that the Canadian Parks System have opened the tunnels underneath the falls? Inside is a treasure trove of history, machinery and overall amazement that has not been available until now. The tunnel is 117-years-old, but has been tastefully updated for modern world demands.
