Tumbling Guys

You can’t always believe everything you hear. But who would have thought there would be an ongoing discussion about tumbleweeds? (As they say, there’s nowt as queer as folk.) When we stop to ponder it, we all can picture in our minds where we might see them, and what they might be doing at the time (usually tumbling.) We might go one step further and imagine ourselves being there as well, rolling around.

Once you look into it, though, you’ll be surprised at how much more there is to this furry, spurious denizen of earth. The chance of most of us having expert knowledge about tumbleweeds and being positioned in a desert, able to speak at length about them is probably pretty slim, but there is more to them than you think.

(Ironically, pretty slim sounds like a legendary wild wild west character.) On a more educational viewpoint, Tumbleweeds have developed fascinating adaptations to survive in harsh, arid environments. Learning about how they reproduce, disperse their seeds, and withstand extreme conditions can be enlightening.

If you’d like a more botanical definition, tumbleweeds are plants that detach from their roots and roll across the landscape, spreading their seeds as they go. This adaptation helps them colonize new areas and survive in harsh conditions. Don’t you wish that you had that kind of endurance skills?

And don’t forget that tumbleweeds have appeared in countless movies, books, and songs, making them a part of popular culture. Learning about their cultural significance can provide insights into human perceptions of nature and the environment. Burned into our brains, you could say.

As you might expect, they are usually found in dry deserted places. But, those are some of the best places to camp, and they’re everywhere on the planet.  Abandoned agricultural fields, vacant lots or the side of the road are also top places to find them (or to avoid them.) Happily, our affiliate friends, Auto Europe have got campers for you to rent worldwide if this is your thing. To book yours, click here.
