You don’t need to believe in religion or be a practicing one to find some satisfaction in how the last pope behaved. As of this writing, Pope Francis left this planet on April 21, 2025. He was genuinely, a man of the people, and was dearly beloved by those who followed the papacy. Rather different than previous Popes, his kindness, sense of values and, perhaps most all, sense of humour brought a new and more relevant papacy to followers and, even to non-believers. We here at Matouring are not religious, but will miss his presence.

When you think about the Papacy, its legacy and the sheer duration of the role, we think he was singular as the Pope of the people. Of course, there will always be downsides, but in his instance, we felt like he shone as a man as well as well as being Papa. You may recall that his predecessor, Pope Pope John Paul I had an attempt on his life. It certainly can’t be an easy life, or an easy choice of work or life choice.
The Pope has, for decades needed (and has) protection no matter where he goes. This job exists with The Swiss Guard. Young men choose this job as a lifetime responsibility. The stakes are high. Watch above.
