Turkey stands at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, and has so for millenia. Its importance cannot be understated, especially when you consider all that it has brought to the world.
If you’ve been, you’ll know that one of the most unforgettable experiences there is the Bosphorus. Huge, bustling, vibrant and stunning, it has also had its share of inconveniences over the decades, as it took forever to cross from one side to the other, usually in the small ferries that populate the river.
But, Turkey has now pushed the boats out (in a manner of speaking) by inaugurating a huge suspension bridge over the Dardanelles Strait that joins the European and Asian shores. It has a 2,023-meter (6,637 feet) span between its towers, the and has been christened the “1915 Canakkale Bridge.” If you’ve been to Turkey, here’s another reason to return.
