Those of you who have been to London, England, give yourselves a pat on the back if you’re limber enough to manage to ford the River Thames in order to get to your destination (as opposed to taking a taxi or bus.) Actually, walking across the River Thames is rather easy, when you have the choice of crossing any one of the 214 (!) bridges. We’re sure you’ve done that many times as you’ve walked to Embankment for your evening Flâneur.
But did you know that you could also cross the River Thames to get to your airplane? A little bit of introspection will tell you that Heathrow is way over to the West, and Gatwick is way to the south, with no consequential rivers to ford in order to get you to your destination. Unless, of course, you’ve ever flow out of London City airport. Have you heard of it? It’s real and it exists. And there are regular flights landing and departing to and from this hidden gem.
If you’re a thrusting captain of industry or not, London City Airport is situated close to the financial district of London, making it a convenient choice for business travelers. It’s also well-connected to the city center, with various transportation options available. Flights mostly head for Europe as destinations, but not all of them. When you investigate the options with London City airport, you may never use Heathrow or Gatwick again.
And, of use for everyone, the airport is smaller compared to other London airports like Heathrow or Gatwick, which means shorter queues for security checks and boarding, leading to quicker check-in and departure times. This can save valuable time, especially for busy travelers. London City Airport is located closer to central London than other major airports, which means shorter travel times to and from the airport. This is particularly beneficial for those with tight schedules or those who prefer to minimize travel time.
And one of the nicest benefits is that, due to its location on the River Thames, flights departing from or arriving at London City Airport often provide scenic views of iconic London landmarks such as the Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf, offering a unique experience for passengers. And, you’ll also get to see parts of London that you don’t normally see.

And, of course, there are easy land connections into The Smoke. The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) Overground rail system connects East London to the London Underground network. A lift connects the London City Airport DLR station platforms with our main terminal. Trains depart LCY every 8 to 15 minutes.
