Stasi you later.

We asked Gemini when was the last time that the earth and its humans were at peace with each other? Tragically, it didn’t provide the answer that we’d hoped, but we’d had little hope to begin with to be honest. The AI tool offered. It’s difficult, if not impossible, to pinpoint a specific “last time” when the Earth and humans were truly “at peace” with each other, for several fundamental reasons: From the Earth’s perspective:

Does “peace” mean no human impact at all? If so, that would predate humanity. Does it mean a sustainable level of impact? Even “sustainable” levels still involve significant human activity and resource extraction. (to be clear, we are not talking about the dinosaurs)

For most of human history, impacts were localized. A small group of people might overhunt an area or deforest a valley, but their actions didn’t cause widespread global changes.

The idea of humans impacting the entire Earth system is a relatively recent phenomenon, largely coinciding with the Industrial Revolution and the massive increase in population and technological capability.

All good answers, but not quite the short, sharp reply that Gemini is. So, while “peace” between Earth and humans is an aspirational goal for sustainable living, a time of complete, widespread, and mutual non-impact likely never existed in the way we might imagine. The relationship has always been one of interaction, with the scale and nature of human impact evolving dramatically over millennia. The more the more things change, the more they stay the same. Germany, a stalwart truth, peace love and understand has been yardstick, the bellwether. But even they still have their ghosts. Watch the fascinating video above to either see a portend of things to come, or hope that will prevail, spread, and bring good to all of our planet’s people.

BTW, Did you know that In 2023, the EU saw approximately 4.3 million people migrating from non-EU countries, according to Eurostat. Additionally, about 1.5 million people moved between EU member states in the same year. While legal migration channels are used by the majority, with 3.7 million people using them in 2023, irregular migration still accounts for a significant number, with around 385,000 irregular migrants in 2023. Furthermore, over one million asylum applications were filed in the EU in 2023.  That says volumes. A safe haven would be nice.

But, when you think about it: we already have such a haven. It’s called the European Union. Long may it run we are behind you. 150%. Long may you run
