Scary Cemetery?

Not on your life! Right away, for those of you who have an aversion to disturbing places, you might want to think twice about spending time with this post. But if it’s your thing, you’ll be missing a lot of fun, as well. This instalment of fun is based around Highgate Cemetery in London.

If you stick with us, you will not only come away with some rather interesting – and fun – facts about the decidedly un-scary cemetery, but you’ll be able to impress your friends and loved ones about not only British history, but history that has found its way around the globe. And, for sure, the next time you’re in London, you’ll want to make a bee-line to Highgate to see it all, up close and personal. Learn more by watching the video below.

The first highlights will be the cemetery itself. It is renowned for its stunning Victorian Gothic architecture, with towering monuments, intricate carvings, and dramatic mausoleums.

You’ll also swoon when you see the names of the not-of-this-earth denizens. How does Karl Marx, Douglas Adams, and Virginia Woolf strike you, if you want to rub elbows, so to speak?

There are approximately 170,000 people buried there. Tread carefully.

Even if you find cemetery to be a bit spooky, you’ll calm down quickly when you find yourself surrounded by lush greenery, relaxing you with a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. It is also teeming with wildlife habitat: The cemetery is a haven for wildlife, including foxes, owls & bats. Plus, you’ll have bragging rites. Give it a go!
