At times, we curse them. But in fairness, we should also thank “them their service.” Are we talking about the military, or the police? No, not in this instance. Here, as much as we would like to bite our tongues, we want to thank the rich. We won’t dwell too much on who they are in particular, and why they would deserve accolades more than anyone else.
But one obvious aspect of their behavior singles them out: their philanthropy. And, being rich, they take great pride in being able to one-up each other when it comes to giving. Walk into almost any decent museum and you will see their fruits: Picassos, Rembrandts, Haring and more. Marvelous! Kudos, one and all.
But a singular thread of their kind sometimes go a bit further and turn their art into a sky-high offering, and much of the time, we wee plebs have the chance to experience what we’re talking about here, even if we’re going off the rails of good writing.
Join us as we take a tour of an incredible building with incredible art and managers that are more than happy to share. Let’s take a tour of Toronto’s Toronto Dominion Bank and drool at what they have be preserving. And part of the design was by none other than Mies van der Rohe. Swoon. ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚
They were the first mid-century modern buildings in downtown Toronto and have been iconic landmarks since they opened in 1967. On the 54th floor is TD’s executive level. It’s a time capsule of the late 1960s almost perfectly maintained.
Usually it’s closed to the public, but you can get a taste watching the video as you take an up-close and personal tour of the 54th Floor. That’s where the action is. And they do periodically have tours for us hoi poloi, as well. Watch the video above. Charming, not stuffy. Canadian, in other words.
The turn-of-the-century art is also well worth the visit. But don’t go in winter. It’s COLD!!
