Rhyl estate

As ever, we plumb the heights and the depths of the internet everyday to find content to entertain you (and us.) But we always look for the unusual. So, even though we are of Welsh stock and have been there many, many many times, we’ve found a new place that was not within our purview until now. It’s a place called Rhyl. According to Wikitravel, “Rhyl is in a seaside town in Wales. Although once a very beautiful resort, it has become very run down in recent years, although there are attempts to revive the town. The Town could be called an enclave of England due to the sheer number of tourists and English people who live there.”

. . . . continuing with Wikipedia, Rhyl still remains popular with a large number of tourists, mainly from the north of England, and continues to attract visitors despite its numerous and visible social and development issues. In reality, there is little to recommend Rhyl for visitors to North Wales as immeasurably better examples of Welsh seaside resorts can be found elsewhere on the coast.

So why are we featuring this place that, for all intents and purposes, probably shouldn’t be featured? Well, firstly, we always look for the unusual, because that’s often where you find the hidden gems. Secondly, you can’t always trust travelogs or internet “influencers.” But, even more importantly, the rest of Wales (or any other country, to be honest) should not be tarred and feathered as is the case in Rhyl. Our final thought is for you to visit and decide yourself. Sometimes, it doesn’t take long for a place to spring back to life, and you have the chance of being part of that renaissance, no matter where you go.
