Ready for history, or luxury?

. . or both? We’ll take both, if you please. It’s not very often when you can rewind time as it were and literally step into it and onto it. History doesn’t always age as nicely as it can. Luckily, there are geeks like us who do everything we can to maintain historical artifacts, especially those that have a shelf-life. We could be talking about Göbekli Tepe, but that’s in good hands now.

(Don’t miss seeing it.) No, this history is mana from the heavens for some. For others, it’s merely a way of getting around. And what is the most popular way of getting around for most jetsetters? Jets, of course, and thank the pharaohs that there are dyed in the wool fans who love aviation (such as us.

To get to the point, a few years ago, a UK company pledged to bring one of the most admired and envied jet planes, the Airbus A380, to life again. It’s been a long road, but it seems like it’s finally going to take flight, literally. UK-based GLOBAL Airlines have promised what they’ve preached as the very first flights of finally lifted off into the wide blue yonder.

Global Airlines Limited is a British virtual airline with a planned fleet of four Airbus A380 aircraft. The company purchased its first aircraft in May 2023 and claims to be the first new Airbus A380 owner in eight years. This is exciting stuff and history in the making.

The new British startup airline founded in 2021 by travel entrepreneur James Asquith. Their ambitious plan is to “bring back the golden age of air travel” by operating a fleet composed exclusively of Airbus A380 aircraft on long-haul routes, focusing on providing an elevated customer experience. If you’ve been around as long as we have, these kinds of stories are a dime a dozen.

But this is the real thing. First Flights Completed: GLOBAL Airlines operated its inaugural transatlantic flight on May 15, 2025, from Glasgow (GLA) to New York JFK, using an Airbus A380 wet-leased from Hi Fly Malta. A second charter flight is scheduled from Manchester (MAN) to New York JFK on May 21, 2025.

As if the flight itself isn’t enough, the Cabin Configuration sounds too good to be true. The operational A380 features a three-class cabin: Economy (“Global Traveller”), Business, and First Class. Initial plans for a five-class configuration, including a “Gamer Class,” have been dropped. The airline emphasizes a focus on customer comfort and service. Want to go? You’d better hurry.
