Princess Palawan.

Ready for the latest Star Wars franchise installment? Great, but this isn’t it, we’re afraid. Rather than slushing through the mud and the blood and the bad vibes that typically populate those kinds of entertainment (and violence) we prefer to bask in different vibes of our own choice. This post’s choice is the rather exotic Palawan. Do you know of it? Palawan is an island province in the Philippines, located between the South China Sea and the Sulu Sea. It’s the largest province in the country, stretching southwest from the main island of Luzon towards Borneo. Don’t those names – Luzon and Borneo get your spine tingling and your wallet out?

We don’t know about you, but that collection of locations and destinations sounds rather appealing and exciting, and a place that we think our erudite readers would definitely put on their list. Palawan is often called the “Last Frontier” of the Philippines because of its relatively untouched ecosystems.

Unlike some of the more developed tourist islands in the Philippines, the province has managed to preserve much of its natural beauty. Visit, and you will be mesmerized by its towering limestone cliffs, hidden lagoons, pristine beaches with powdery white sand, and lush rainforests. The waters surrounding Palawan are unfeasibly clear, making it ideal for snorkeling, diving, and exploring the vibrant coral reefs.

And to even sweeten the pot even more, Puerto Princesa features a Subterranean River National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, features a spectacular underground river that flows directly into the sea.

Getting around is simple: Palawan’s good air, rail and sea connections make it easy. Expedia has your tickets click here
